New Items!

Lately I've been working on new winter/Christmas items to offer in my shop. While not covered in jingle bells and glitter, and not all of them scream "Christmas!", I thought that these creations could be used for anytime during those chilly months of the year.

I've recently learned how to make wire wrapped rings. It is a really enjoyable pastime! I made this one with the thought of snow in my head. Silver and white always look so nice together. Clean and simple. They also make me think of Christmas and winter just because they are two of the signature colors of the season. I can make them in all sizes. Just visit my shop and send me a message requesting the size of your choice and I will make a reserved listing for you!

I've also made a small batch of these polymer clay hot chocolate earrings. Nothing says Christmas like peppermint hot chocolate right? I carefully sculpted everything about these. I made the mugs and candy canes. I hand detailed the "whipped cream" and filled the mug with "hot chocolate". I made them in green to make them a little more "Christmasy".

Well if you aren't a hot chocolate person and crave a little more caffeine than it has to offer, then maybe these will be better suited to fit you. I know they aren't totally a Christmas item, but I know plenty of people that need that hot cup of coffee to brave those cold winter days so I thought they would still be appropriate. Each bean stud earring in this batch has been given a little bit of texture and a quick buffing. They aren't super shiny (I didn't want them to be) but I noticed that real coffee beans do have just a little bit of a shine. I decided to sand them for just a couple of minutes with 320 grit sandpaper and give them a quick buff on denim. I'm pleased with the outcome.

Like I said, I've just learned how to make wire wrapped rings, so here is yet another one of my first creations. I like this one for how cozy it looks, hence the reason I'm letting it pass for a winter item. I'm very in to brown jewelry so I thought I'd make some myself. I love how imprecise the wire wraps are on this one. It gave it a very bohemian look that I am totally pleased with. A perfect accessory for a cozy winter sweater or a pea coat.

Any of these items would make great gifts as well and you can find them all here. These are not all of the Christmas/winter items I will be offering, they are just the first ones done. Also, read the image below for my Black Friday special! Thanks for reading!

Pie!

One of the best foods of the holidays? Pie! I'm personally a big fan of pie (I mean, come on. Who isn't?). That's why I've made a variety of pie accessories to stock the shop. I've made chocolate, pumpkin and the holiday classic pecan, all in earrings, charms and bracelets. Perfect to wear to all of those holiday parties and get-togethers. I'm also working on apple and cherry, which should be done in the very near future. Who can say no to pie?

New Items!

I'm currently working on filling the shop with all new, unique items. As of last night, I've released four new pairs of earrings.

The first is a bunch of ripe bananas, complete with age spots and just a touch of green to show "ripeness". You can purchase them here. The second is a pair of baguette earrings. Each loaf has been hand detailed to look toasted and sliced. I've carefully detailed the bread texture so that each piece looks fluffy and ready to eat. The bottoms are even slightly "burnt". I spent a lot of time on these charms to give them as realistic of a look as I could. You can purchase them here.

The next pair of earrings, I'm particularly proud of. Popcorn and popcorn kernels. I took my time with these little junk food imposters. Each one has been made to look just like a popped popcorn kernel, complete with a toasted look and a slightly dented texture. Along with each popped kernel, I've also made un-popped kernels. I've colored them to look as close to actual kernels as I can. Each of the earrings features a popped kernel and an un-popped kernel. You won't find charms like these anywhere else. I really enjoyed making these. You can find them here.

The last pair of earrings that I posted, are modeled after sandwiches. I carefully detailed the bread like I did with the baguette earrings. This time however, I split the loaf down its side and added "lunch meat", "cheese" and "lettuce". The meat and lettuce have been given a bit of a shine to add to their realism. You can get your own pair here.

I had a lot of fun making all of these new items, and I'm looking forward to making more in the coming days. Be sure to check back and see what I'm up to, and be sure to check out the Not Quite Sane Facebook page as well. Thanks for reading!

Insanity at its Most Creative

Hello and welcome to my blog! I'm Vicki, the owner, operator and designer of Not Quite Sane, a shop devoted to unique creativity and self expression. I work mostly with polymer clay, but I'm not limited to it. All of my creations are unique. Even if I make more that one of something, every single one is different, like a snowflake. There is a little something for everybody in my shop. From miniature food earrings to a hot pink brain necklace, no one is ever sure what to expect from me next, that includes myself.

I will be honest, jewelry is not something that I ever saw myself making. I have always worn jewelry and I've always enjoyed making things, but the two never seemed to match up. Then, a few years ago, an idea hit me. You see, my mom (who is a crafting MacGyver) had a craft booth and also participated in craft shows when I was younger. To keep me out of her hair while she worked, she would teach me what she was doing and give me a smaller version to do myself. I'm very grateful to her for this. I now know how to sew, paint, draw, sculpt, and a bunch of other creative things, all because of my mother's own desire to create. This inspired me to open a shop where all the products are completely handmade by the owner. I wanted to put all of my knowledge to use. And that is exactly what I am in the process of doing.

I opened the shop at midnight on December 17th, 2012, and I've never looked back. The items found in my shop have changed drastically from what they were almost a year ago. I'm much prouder of the items that I have come to offer. Hey! We all have to start somewhere!

Along with my Etsy shop, I also participate in local craft shows in my area. For those of you that also run a business like mine, I highly suggest getting involved with these types of events. They are wonderful! I also hope to start my own website very soon, so please check back to see when it's up and running. January is the plan, fingers crossed. For the time being though, my items are always available on Etsy.com here.

As for what I dream for my little shop, it has a ways to go yet, but I am enjoying every minute of the ride. Please be sure to check it out and let me know what you think. I am constantly being inspired, so there's almost always something new to see. You can also follow Not Quite Sane on Facebook here.

Thank you so much for reading, please check back soon!
